    Mensational!

Northern Nevada Mensa Regional Gathering “Reno-ssance” @ The Silver Legacy Hotel Casino Oct 2-4.

Hats off to Reno-ssance ringmaster Ken Wright (Regional Gathering Chairman) for programming a marvelous evening Saturday October 3, featuring some of the most talented entertainers in town.  The Renaissance themed affair was part of NNM’s three day convocation, which boasted an impressive list of speakers, including New York Times Bestselling author Mignon Fogarty (Grammar Girl: Quick & Dirty Tips for Better Writing) and Dr. Howard Chen--among other local notables.

Fabulous performances by Host/MC Jill Marlene (who spun sonnets, sang torch songs and traditional Celtic ballads), Dragonfly Aerials, Boho Hoops, Asha World Dancers, Reno Taiko Drummers, and a capella group Ravens & Roses, made for a memorable night. Wendy Firestone put funky spins on her illuminated hula hoops. Nicki Bracco, Heather Linn Bell, Sharon Fuqua, Chelsea Teller-Chen and Brenda Cox heated up the stage with sultry burlesque vignettes and authentic fan dances. High flyers Kendall Knowles and Anastasia Bobadilla wowed on silks and stilts, bringing a carnival/big top atmosphere to the proceedings. The Reno Taiko Drummers (playing handmade drums made in Reno) were spectacular, filling the room with rhythms from Japan to the Ivory Coast. All of the performers donated their time and sound engineer Matt Gibietz (from 210 North) did an excellent job with the audio. Cassie Schumacher stage managed expertly; Jake and Justin were alternately hilarious and awe inspiring in their routines.  The lovely Leilani Macedo was her usual fabulous self.
