Local Ink Girl Brittni Grider
We picked Reno model Brittni Grider (upcoming cover model in Tattoo Energy - March 2010) to be our first Local Ink Girl after her mother suggested we contact her. We were stoked at her skin art. The ambitious blonde is incredibly focused, ambitious, real and obviously gorgeous. Below, she tells all about her ink.
Tattoos:
Sleeve - Jason Kundell
Seventh Son Tattoo - San Francisco, California
Amaterasu, Japanese Sun Goddess. The Sun Goddess of Japan’s Shinto religion. As the myth goes, her warmth and compassion emitted light off of her. The story follows that she trapped herself in a cave causing the world to be consumed in darkness. One day she was told there was a new Goddess and was pointed towards a mirror. She had never seen her own beauty before and was tricked out of the cave, mesmerized by her reflection. When she stepped out, they closed the cave behind her. The whole reason I got this tattoo was to remind myself to never be vain. It also represents beauty, warmth compassion and prosperity, because the Goddess brought light back to the world. My tattoo shows her holding a mirror to reflect this story.
Right Inner Arm - Justin McCroy
Bad Apple Tattoo - Las Vegas, Nevada
Alligator with a crown. This was my first tattoo and I chose it because Alligators are my favorite animal. I wanted to add an imperial crown on him simply for the fact that I thought it would look good but also because I see them as the king of all animals.
Elbows - Tony Medellin
Nightmare Studios - Reno, Nevada
Eternal Loyalty. I chose these words as a reminder to always be true to myself; to never forget my roots and to keep in mind how hard I work to have the moral values I have today. And to always remain humble.
Stomach - Tony Medellin
Nightmare Studios - Reno, Nevada
Strength Within. When I commit to something, I stick with it and I guess it's just to remind myself to never give up. I can do whatever I put my mind to as long as I've got inner strength.
Left Hip - Nikko Hurtado
Ignition Tattoo - Apple Valley, California
Marilyn Monroe. I went to Nikko’s shop and read a biography on her. I was so captivated by the fact that behind her glamorous life, she was mysterious and secretly, a little miserable. No matter how rich or famous you get, it won't guarantee happiness. Her story is another reminder to stay humble--but also to never give your self away 100%. A little mystery never hurt anyone.
Right Hip - DJ Minor
Nightmare Studios - Reno, Nevada
Princess. Outlined in pink with purple instead of traditional black. I chose this word because I felt at the time that when life feels dull then to find some way to glamour it up. It was also a matching tattoo with one of my good girl friends who moved away right after.
